Water Filter Dubai: types, prices and what actually works
For most homes in Dubai, an under-sink activated carbon filter is the most practical water filter: it removes chlorine, unpleasant taste and sediment, keeps healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium, and wastes no water. A basic supplied-and-installed unit typically costs AED 700–2,500. A complete filtered water tap system like WELLQ — activated carbon filtration plus chilled, sparkling and 98 °C hot water from one designer tap — starts at 12,605 AED incl. VAT and is finished with an independent lab certificate after installation.
WELLQ complete system from 12,605 AED incl. VAT (from 6.91 AED a day over five years) · installation 1,242 AED within Dubai
Do you need a water filter in Dubai?
Dubai's drinking water is desalinated and treated by DEWA and meets regulatory standards when it leaves the plant. What reaches your glass depends on the last stretch: the building's storage tank, the pipes and the heat in between. A filter at the kitchen tap is about that last metre — and about taste.
- Chlorine is added to keep water safe on its way to you — and it is what most people taste. Chlorine in Dubai tap water →
- Rooftop and basement tanks are a building's responsibility, and summer heat makes their maintenance matter more. The last-meter problem →
- A simple TDS meter shows dissolved minerals, not whether your water is clean — only a lab test does that. How to test your water at home →
Water filter types in Dubai compared
| Filter type | Typical price in Dubai | What it does well | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filter jug | approx. AED 100–200 | Better taste, no installation, works in any rental | Small volume; cartridge every ~150 litres; no chilled, sparkling or hot water |
| Under-sink activated carbon filter | AED 700–2,500+ supplied & installed | Removes chlorine, taste, odour and sediment; keeps minerals; no wastewater | Needs cabinet space and regular cartridge changes; usually a basic separate tap |
| Under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) | from approx. AED 700 (retail units) | Removes nearly everything, including dissolved salts | Strips calcium and magnesium; wastes 3–4 litres per litre produced; needs a storage tank |
| Whole-house filter (point of entry) | AED 1,500–6,000+ installed (villas) | Treats every outlet in the house and protects appliances | Not a drinking-water polish at the kitchen tap; needs a site survey; mostly for villas |
| Filtered water tap system (WELLQ) | from 12,605 AED incl. VAT | Activated carbon filtration plus chilled, sparkling and 98 °C hot water from one designer tap; independent lab certificate after installation | Premium price; installation 1,242 AED within Dubai |

Six questions to ask before you buy
What does it remove — and what does it leave in?
Activated carbon targets chlorine, taste and sediment and keeps minerals. RO removes almost everything, minerals included.
Is there independent proof after installation?
Ask whether an accredited laboratory tests the water from your tap after the install, and whether you receive the certificate.
What do replacement cartridges cost, and how often?
The running cost decides the real price. WELLQ's activated carbon cartridge is changed every 12 months or 6,000 litres, whichever comes first.
Who installs it, and what is the warranty?
Certified technicians, a written warranty and a local service team matter more in a Dubai summer than a spec sheet.
Does it fit your kitchen and tenancy?
Check cabinet space and, in a rented apartment, agree any installation with your landlord first.
What else do you want from the tap?
If you also want chilled, sparkling or boiling-hot water, one filtered tap system replaces a kettle, a water cooler and bottled water.
Is WELLQ the right water filter for you?

Water filter Dubai: questions, answered
How much does a water filter cost in Dubai?
A filter jug costs around AED 100–200, a supplied-and-installed under-sink carbon filter typically AED 700–2,500, and a whole-house system for a villa AED 1,500–6,000 or more. A complete WELLQ filtered water tap system starts at 12,605 AED incl. VAT, with installation at 1,242 AED within Dubai.
Do I need a water filter if Dubai tap water is safe?
DEWA's water meets standards when it leaves the plant. A filter at the tap deals with what can change afterwards — the building tank, pipes and chlorine taste — and many families simply prefer the taste of filtered water.
Activated carbon or reverse osmosis — which is better for Dubai?
Activated carbon removes chlorine, taste and sediment while keeping calcium and magnesium, and wastes no water. Reverse osmosis removes nearly everything, including the minerals, and wastes 3–4 litres for every litre it produces.
How often do water filter cartridges need changing?
It depends on the system. A filter jug cartridge lasts roughly 150 litres. WELLQ's activated carbon cartridge is replaced every 12 months or 6,000 litres, whichever comes first — included in the annual service.
How do I know my water filter actually works?
Only a laboratory test shows it. After every WELLQ installation, Wimpey Laboratories (EIAC-accredited) tests water from your tap against GSO 149/2021, and you receive the certificate. WELLQ covers the cost.
Does WELLQ install water filters outside Dubai?
Yes. WELLQ installs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Installation within Dubai costs 1,242 AED; a surcharge applies outside the Emirate of Dubai.
